At Bailey Kickboxing Academy & Fitness, we’re proud to participate in IKF Point Muay Thai (PMT) and IKF Point Kickboxing (PKB) events — a competition style designed to help athletes of all levels grow in a controlled, safe, and highly technical environment.
The International Kickboxing Federation (IKF) created these “point-based” divisions as a semi-contact form of competition. Instead of emphasizing power, the focus is on:
Clean technique
Precision
Timing
Control
Sportsmanship
These events give beginners, youth athletes, and developing martial artists a chance to compete without the intensity or risk of full-contact fighting.
Strikes must be controlled at all times. Heavy blows or knockout attempts are not allowed. Referees strictly enforce safety and technique.
Competitors wear headgear, gloves, shin/foot protection, mouthpieces, and groin protection. Some divisions may also use body protectors.
Judges score based on the number of clean, legal strikes — not on power or aggression. Round winners are determined by technical excellence.
Bouts typically range from 1–3 short rounds, making the action quick, technical, and beginner-friendly.
Punches and kicks to legal target areas
No low kicks in “Above the Waist” divisions
No elbows or power knees
Kicks to legs and body allowed
Knees to the body (controlled) allowed
No elbows
Limited, controlled clinch depending on division
IKF point fighting is perfect for:
New students gaining confidence
Youth competitors
Adults wanting to test their skills safely
Technical martial artists who enjoy strategy over power
Fighters preparing for future full-contact bouts
It’s a great way to build timing, rhythm, and fight IQ while keeping injury risk low.
Many athletes use IKF PMT/PKB events as their entry point into competition. The structure allows you to learn, grow, and challenge yourself — without jumping straight into full-contact Muay Thai.
Bailey Kickboxing Academy prepares students for IKF events year-round.
